Rupert had more than 20 years’ executive experience when he joined us in 2009 as Global Head of Professional and Financial Lines. In 1986 he co-founded SVB Holdings – subsequently renamed Novae Holdings – and remained there for 17 years, including 11 as CEO and three as underwriter of Syndicate 1007.

In 2005 Rupert co-founded APJ Continuation Ltd, whose major subsidiary writes a specialist book of special accident insurance. Beyond his immense London experience, Rupert is also a director of CertaAsig Societate di Asigurare Ci Reasigurare SA, a Romanian insurance company.

When Mario joined us in March 2011, he already had 34 years of global experience across various industry leadership positions. He made the move from Zurich Financial Services, where he was CEO, Global Corporate, with responsibility for all corporate business globally – he was also a member of Zurich’s Group Management Board. Mario spent six years at Willis Group Holdings, including four as CEO of Willis North America.

Mario is a member of the board of trustees of St John's University College of Insurance in New York, the board of directors of AICPCU and the board of Boys Hope Girls Hope of NYC. He has also been a member of the board of the American Insurance Association and of the board of directors of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers.

Bob joined us in 2007 with five colleagues from XL Europe to start a new Excess Casualty operation in Dublin, predominantly for US risks. He started out as a broker for CE Heath in 1982, before becoming a casualty underwriter with Chiyoda in 1988. Bob moved to ACE Ltd in Bermuda seven years later, where he wrote high-excess liability. He then moved to Dublin in 2001 to work with ACE, writing European and International high excess liability. He later moved to manage the casualty account for XL Europe out of Dublin in 2003.

David has been working in the London Aviation Market for more than 30 years: first as broker; then as underwriter. He now serves as Chairman of the IUA's Aviation Technical Committee. David was appointed to head up CIGNA's international aviation operation in 1992 before leaving to create the XL Aviation operation six years later. He has served on the markets company and Lloyd's committees.

Des joined us in 2007 after 16 years as a partner in the consulting firm he founded, McCavitt Ray & Co. During that time, he worked with a broad range of firms in the financial sector on efficiency improvement, cost reduction, risk management and business control projects. His high-level experience in processes, systems and business change is a welcome addition to our management team. A Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Des is also a founding committee member of the European Chapter of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

Brian brought more than 20 years of experience when he came to Aspen, after being Chief Administrative Officer at Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. He has also worked in finance and treasury for XL Capital and WR Berkley. Over his career he has developed expertise in mergers and acquisitions, ceded reinsurance, worldwide property and casualty insurance and reinsurance strategy, claims and actuarial management, human resources, information technology development and finance. Brian's designations include being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and an ARe (Associate in Reinsurance). He was recently recognised by Reactions magazine as one of the rising stars of the industry.

Simon started his career at Lloyd’s in 1988 before moving to National Indemnity. He then joined us in 2004 as Energy Underwriter. Simon holds an MBA and ACII and is a member of the London market Joint Rig Committee.

Stuart began his career as a syndicate accountant at SVB in 1993. He has held roles including COO at Towergate Financial, CFO of Towergate’s underwriting division and CFO of Fusion Insurance. He joined us in 2009 and is the Finance Business Partner to our insurance division, as well as our Lloyd's CFO. Stuart looks after the group’s planning and forecasting area, and the ARML and APJ companies. He is also our rating agency liaison specialist.

Originally a lawyer and a current member of the Pennsylvania Bar, Bruce began his insurance career as Claims Counsel with Cigna Property and Casualty. He then moved to AIG, where he handled professional liability claims.

Bruce has also held various roles with Reliance National, ACE USA and Liberty International Underwriters – part of Liberty Mutual Group – where he was Senior Vice President of Professional Liability Underwriting before joining us in January 2010.

Bernie joined us in 2007 from Atrium Underwriters Limited at Lloyd’s, where he was Head of Financial and Political Risks and a member of the Syndicate Management Group. He started his credit and political risk insurance career in 1983 – joining Lloyd’s first specialist political risk broker, Investment Insurance International Ltd (now part of Aon), after being articled in law firm De Pinnas. He moved to Berry Palmer & Lyle Limited in 1985, serving as a director across various boards until 1996. Bernie also served as Founding CEO and Head of Diplomatic Mission of the African Trade Insurance Agency. Before this, he was Director of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited, the Lloyd's managing agency of Wellington Underwriting plc (now part of Catlin group).
